Aloe Vera Juice BenefitsAloe vera has been used in medicine for thousands of years. It was brought to America in the 1500's by the Spaniards. It has been used since antiquity for burns, scrapes, cuts and sunburn. Aloe vera gel works on the skin by turning off the chemicals that cause pain and swelling. It appears to fight bacteria and fungus. It can be applied externally in whatever amount is comfortable. Fresh aloe gel straight from a plant seems to work better than the aloe gel for sale in stores. Used internally, aloe vera juice has a benefit of reducing constipation. The main benefit of aloe vera juice is that it is a very powerful laxative, it works by preventing the intenstine from re-absorbing water. It is possible that it may even cause diarrgea and cramping. Full benefit of aloe vera is gained by taking not more than 1 quart per day. It is recommended not to take more than a quart a day. Aloe vera juice should never be given to children or to elderly patients. It is also possible that aloe juice can affect the absorption of other medications, so it should not be taken within 2 hours of any other medicine. Diabetics should also monitor their blood sugars closely after drinking aloe vera juice. Remember: Herbs are not miracle cures. Do not stop taking your prescription medicines without speaking to your health care provider. Doing so may be dangerous to your health.
